Our story

It started with a spreadsheet that couldn't keep up

Six years from a broken Excel file to 38,400 payslips. This is the honest version — including the parts where we got it wrong.

2020

The spreadsheet breaks

Three companies, 600 workers, one accountant — Tally for the books, Excel for wages, a paper khata for advances. One wrong lookup formula paid a weaver twice and missed a fitter entirely. We wrote the first internal tool that month.

2021

Attendance goes live at Gate 2

Biometric machines synced for the first time. The guard's phone became a backup clock-in device after the first power cut taught us a lesson.

2022

The first payslip on WhatsApp

The payroll engine learned piece rate — metres woven, not hours sat. And the first payslip went out on WhatsApp. Workers stopped queuing at the office to ask what they'd been paid.

2023

All 14 companies, one system

The last group company migrated off Excel. Per-company PF codes, PT slabs and pay rules became first-class — because we needed them, not because a roadmap said so. Zero missed PF deadlines since.

2024

Friends' factories start asking

A spinning mill in Rajkot saw the exception queue and asked for a login. We said no — then rebuilt the whole thing multi-tenant so we could say yes properly.

2025

Segnol gets its name

First outside customers in Rajkot, Anand and Vadodara. First support call answered by the engineer who wrote the feature — a habit we've kept.

2026

Public launch — segnolerp.com

38,400+ payslips generated. Six years of our own payroll as the test suite. Now it's yours to try — with your own data, not a demo script.

We never had to imagine our user. He clocks in at our own gate at 7:58 every morning.

What it taught us

Three things six years of payroll taught us

01

The exception is the job

Nobody needs software for the 389 people whose month was normal. Payroll is hard because of the 23 who had a power cut, a missed punch-out, or an advance to settle.

02

Deadlines beat features

The 15th does not move. We stopped shipping anything in the first fortnight of a month, and started measuring ourselves on filings made on time instead of tickets closed.

03

Trust is built at the gate

A worker who can read their own payslip stops queuing outside the office to argue about it. Adoption on the floor mattered more than any dashboard we built for management.
